On March 23, 2026, the project "I, YOU, WE, THEY CAN" (2025-2026) successfully concluded with an online conference, as proof that through joint action, sustainable mechanisms for supporting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities can be created.
The conference brought together representatives from the education, health and social sectors, from Macedonia, Poland and Spain, with one common goal – fostering a sustainable and functional system for supporting and promoting the rights of persons with disabilities.
Online Conference as the Final Phase of the Project
The conference opened with addresses by the organizers, who emphasized the importance of intersectoral cooperation and building inclusive policies that focus on the needs of people with disabilities. The conference discussed the challenges faced by families, the need for early intervention, the accessibility of services, as well as the necessity of continuous education of professionals.
In the introductory speeches, the experiences gained during the visit to the three camps in Macedonia, Poland, and Spain were shared. The topic of coordination between institutions was also raised, with the participants emphasizing that systemic gaps can only be overcome through clearly defined protocols and a partnership approach. Positive practices and examples of successful local cooperation were presented, which served as inspiration for further initiatives.
A documentary was also promoted as part of the conference, showcasing the impressions and key moments from the visits, as well as the experiences of all parties involved. Through personal testimonies, the documentary emphasizes the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation and opens space for new ideas and approaches for its further strengthening.
Promotion of a Manual for Recognizing and Addressing the Needs of Young People with Disabilities
The conference also saw the launch of the new Manual for Fascilitating of Social, Medical and Educational Professionals in Working with Young People with Disabilities, a practical tool for professionals, parents and organisations. The Manual contains guidelines for identifying and addressing the needs of people with disabilities, models for cross-sectoral cooperation, and recommendations for improving inclusive practices. The authors stressed that the document is the result of field experience and consultations with stakeholders.
Exchange of Experiences of Professionals From the Three Countries
After the main part, a space was opened for constructive discussion and exchange of experiences on the challenges faced by professionals in the daily work of professionals from Macedonia, Poland and Spain, the necessary support for people with disabilities and the opportunities for improving inter-sectoral cooperation and continuity of services. Special emphasis was placed on inter-institutional coordination, with participants emphasizing that systemic gaps can only be overcome through clearly defined protocols and a partnership approach. Positive practices and examples of successful local cooperation were presented, which served as an incentive for further initiatives.
The conference also offered an interactive Q&A session, where participants had the opportunity to directly share their challenges and suggestions. The lively discussion showed that there is a strong need for continued events like this, as a space for networking, support, and joint advocacy.
This conference laid a solid foundation for future joint activities and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life and full inclusion of persons with disabilities in society. The organizers announced that they will continue with activities that will contribute to systemic changes and enhanced cooperation among all relevant stakeholders.
